About Group Transportation Services
Founded in 1995, Group Transportation Services (GTS) is a non-asset based third-party logistics (3PL) company providing comprehensive freight transportation management services to clients nationwide. The first year and a half of operations focused on a group buying approach for a collective group of clients. However, after surveying client transportation needs in 1997, the company adopted the service center concept to handle all transportation management services.
GTS launched HERMAN, its proprietary Transportation Management System in 2000, and the company began handling client freight transactions, including rating (pricing), routing (carrier selection), dispatching, and settlement of freight invoices.
In 2002, GTS was named a Weatherhead 100 company for the first of ten consecutive years (2002 through 2011). The award showcases the fastest growing companies in Northeast Ohio. Qualifying companies must show continuing growth over the last five years. This list, created annually, has become a meaningful record of businesses to watch.
GTS became the anchor of the transportation platform of the private equity company HCI Equity Partners in 2008. GTS continued its growth and expanded its services in 2009 when it acquired MESCA Freight Services (Hallowell, ME), as well as Great Northern Transportation (Milford, NH). In 2010, GTS acquired Alpha Freight Systems (Stow, OH) and both companies now operate under the GTS name in Hudson, OH.
Listed NYSE: RRTS Simultaneous with the consummation of an IPO (NYSE: RRTS) by Roadrunner Transportation Systems (RRTS), another HCI Equity Partners portfolio company, RRTS merged with GTS. Together, GTS and RRTS offer a “one-stop” transportation and logistics solution.
