Volume Transportation Supervisor (Volume Department)

Job Summary:
Performs moderately complex analysis and research by effectively receiving shipment information, conducting carrier selection, negotiating rates, and dispatching drivers in order to provide cost saving transportation solutions and a high level of service to our clients. Coordinates full and partial truckload volume shipments. Resolves client issues and recommends corrective and preventive actions to improve overall service to our clients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Receive shipment information, conduct carrier selection, negotiate rates, dispatch drivers, and trace shipments
- Provide rate quotes and transportation solutions to clients and GTS business development representatives
- Train, develop, and motivate subordinate transportation specialists and support personnel to promote optimal performance levels and professional growth
- Develop and maintain relationships with vendors in order to negotiate competitive pricing and maintain a high level of service
- Recommend, develop and enhance operational procedures to improve internal processes and client service
Qualifications:
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office (general suite of products)
- Knowledge of profit and loss reports
- Ability to effectively communicate
- Knowledge of volume modes of transportation
- Knowledge of carrier contracts and tariffs (accessorials)
- Knowledge of freight bill processing
- Bachelor's degree preferred in business management, logistics, transportation or related field with five years experience or a related associate's degree with five-plus years experience
- Ability to convey business and service requirements to outside vendors
